Bayview, located at Idlewild Bay on the south end of Lake Pend Oreille
(pronounced ponderay). It
is a quiet little community that is home to several resorts and marinas.
Home to a small Navy base involved in research
and development of methods to make ships and subs operate more quietly.
There are approximately 100 employees and. contractors at the base, most
commute from the surrounding areas.
Bayview is a favorite location for sailboat moorage, the bay also has
several float house communities, which make it feel like an ocean-side
resort to many. Bayview's population is approximately 420 during the winter months and 560 during the summer. Many retirees follow the sunshine south during our long cold winters. Those remaining enjoy the changing seasons and don't mind the snow shoveling. The road to Bayview passes through Farragut State Park. Farragut was once a training facility for the Navy during the early years of WWII The park visitor center has an interesting display of memorabilia from that era. |
