Post Falls

History

Population  18,150

Frederick Post came upon a falls in the Spokane River in 1871 and saw the ideal location for a sawmill.  He negotiated  a treaty with Chief Andrew Seltice of the Coeur d'Alene Indian Tribe, started his sawmill and hence the settlement of Post Falls began.

The western gateway to North Idaho - Post Falls, Idaho's River city - welcomes you as you travel Interstate 90 east or west, or Highway 41 from the north.  The wooded hills to the south, the winding Spokane River in the heart of town and rippling grass fields stretching to the mountains provide a beautiful setting for this jewel of a town.  An easy exit off I-90 at Spokane Street leads you south to the Spokane River, the destination of osprey with each spring's migration.  The river historically has been a transportation link for the region and today welcomes recreational activities.

Recreational opportunities

Stretch your legs and enjoy the view from the Q'emlin (ka-Mee-lan) trails across the river.  Q'emiln Riverside Park, south of the bridge along the river, offers a refreshing oasis for your picnic, cool water to splash in and a public boat launch.  Within the city limits of Post Falls you can spend the day seeing the petroglyphs and pictographs at Treaty Rock or visit Falls Park.  Quad Park softball complex is the site of games and tournaments throughout the summer.  You can also enjoy rip-roaring stock car racing at the nearby Stateline Stadium and Speedway.  The greyhound Park offers live simulcast racing from the largest dog and horse tracks in American.  This facility is also the home of Clubhouse Bingo with table-top monitors and food and bar service at your table.

Centrally located

Within a 35-mile radius of Post Falls are 30 golf courses, the North Idaho Centennial Trail - a 56 mile-long paved walking and biking trail - three state parks, 55 lakes and four major rivers.  The city is only 25 minutes from downtown Spokane, 35 minutes from Spokane International Airport and 10 minutes from downtown Coeur d'Alene.

Commerce Thrives

Post Falls is quickly becoming a favorite place for companies and their employees to relocate.  Cooperation between civic and commerce groups, coupled with Post Falls' strategic location, planned growth and developing infrastructure along the I-90 corridor, has made it an attractive place to do business.  Harper's, an office furniture manufacturer that employees more than 600 people, was among the first of about 30 companies that have erected commercial buildings since 1994.   New development by major housing projects, the University of Idaho Research Park and successful industry relocation make Post Falls one of the fastest growing communities in North Idaho.

A Shopping Mecca

Post Falls Factory Outlets and Post Falls Factory Stores (both off I-90 at Exit 2) are your one-stop shopping destination with over 75 outlet stores.  Outlet stores advertise from 30 to 70% savings over retail everyday.  New development along Seltice Way to the east includes everything from grocery "superstores" to boutique, gift and pet shops.
